I've had it up to my ears with windows. I'm really looking for some alternative. I don't want to buy a whole new PC just to switch apple OS. And I came across linux. Where can I learn more about it? Would I be able to run everything I could on windows (ie Flash, Photoshop, PC Games)? Or am I limited? Is it possible to emulate Linux on windows to learn to use it better before fully switching? Any info on it would be very helpful :)

google for knoppix, download a "live" cd, it allows you to run linux without installing it, runs off the cdrom

http://www.tldp.org has prettymuch all linux manuals and docs you could ever want

No, in general your windows apps will not work with linux, but usually there's an equivalent and in a few cases they are quite a bit better than anything windows offers.

There are tons of places online you can learn about Linux. One example would be http://linuxcommand.org/ which is a site where you can learn about how to use the terminal program. IMHO, the best place to do a search for Linux stuff is http://google.com/linux

It's possible...but not always probable. Wine is a very popular app among Linux users. It is "an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix." (that's what the website, http://winehq.org, says) It allows you to run Windows apps in Linux, but it is NOT an emulator.
However, Wine is not perfect, and it is not guaranteed to run all Windows apps. So far, I have only gotten a few to work.

There are alternative apps available for Linux. Instead of typing documents in MS Word, get OpenOffice.org. For photo editing, get a copy of GIMP and use that instead of Photoshop.

As for gaming, I would suggest keeping Windows on the side and using it just for gaming.

Cheers!
