install XP first on one partition, then install Red Hat after that. Your Linux Boot Manager (Lilo or Grub) will overright the Win boot record and then you can choose from there which OS to boot to.

ok, cool, so i have winXP installed now, so just pop in the linux cd's and boot to them and i will be safe?

Should be. What distro? If your just starting I suggest Mandrake 9.2 or Suse 9.0 (though Suse isn't free). You do have a spare partition right? When you boot to CD you'll get to break that spare partition down into your / (root), swap (make it about 400 meg) and /home partition. You can use auto allocate. It's pretty safe. Then pick all your stuff, make sure you set your video res and test it (mandrake lets you during setup) and pick your bootloader (I use Lilo, but Grub is good too) Then when you reboot you'll have a choice of what OS to install.

Then the fun begins!
