E-mail retention and deletion standards

Hi all,

Anyone know what the IT field standards are for office e-mail retention and deletion are? If you don't know any standard, could you give me some examples of common standards that are out there?

Depends on your office type and the amount of space you store. I guranatee a law firm is going to keep emails far longer than a university or a dentist office.

If you have unlimited storage it doesn't matter, most large companies don't put a date on the emails, but a size limitation on the PST. Where i work we have a 100 mb PST limitation. After that we have to pull the emails off the server PST into our own.

This is better than a time standard because you leave it up to the user to determine what emails are important and what aren't.
