HL2 Trouble

Whenever I play HL2 or a variant of the game, it will freeze after a while and give a hungapp error. My cpu and gpu temps seem to be fine. What could be the problem?

What are you usually doing right before the freeze. And also, what kind of computer are you running currently? (CPU, GPU, etc.)

I haven't really scene a corrilation between what I'm doing in the game and the hunagapp error. These are my system specs.

DFI Lanparty Ut NF4
Opteron 146 @ 2.6ghz (stock cooling)
1gb pc4000 OCZ Vu Gold
Connect 3d X800 gto PCI-E (Unlocked to 16 pipes)
550 Watt Enermax PSU
