Talking Engine Showdown

Which "2nd Gen" engine do you believe is going to be the best? IE Versatility, easiest to use during design, has best features, has widest range of playability on older machines, etc. etc.

I would have to say (at the moment) Doom 3, the details are uncanny, there is so much detail being pumped through that engine it is unbelievable...

The game was so-so but the graphics clearly deserver a 10.

Although I have a feeling HL2 (Completed Engine) is going to do magic as well.

True... But it's STILL an awesome game.
If you have the 1.2 patch ... it enables bump mapping, and it's absolutley a new game when you turn that on. and IMO it's almost... I mean REALLY close to looking as good as Doom.

I'd have to go with Doom 3; the amount of detail, the dynamic lights, the shadowing effects.... astounding.
