Speaker Extensionn Cables

I want to get a 5.1 speaker system but the way my room is laid out, the rear speaker cables most likely will not be long enough to reach the spot where I want to place them. Is there any negative impact such as reduced sound quality if I use one (or more) speaker extension cables?

I use 10 ft. of speaker extension cable, due to my room layout, and there is no noticable loss of any sound quality.
The 5.1 speaker system is great, its the way to go.
