I just reinstalled Windows XP Home on a Gateway 6020GZ Notebook. I installed all drivers I found on their site, including all avaliable sound drivers, and yet my sound does not work and under 'Other Devices' in my device manager it still says I have no driver for my Multimedia Audio Controller. Any help?

AC'97 is EXTREMELY picky about drivers. You can NOT just download any old driver and it will work... it never works. You MUST use the original drivers that came with the laptop. They will be located on the Restore CD.

I don't have the discs that originally came with it but with some detective work I was able to get it to work. Thanks. :)

for future reference Everest can name your drivers for you, if you need to find their name
