New speakers

I currently have a set of Harmon/Kardon 2.1 speakers which are about 7 to 8 years old which came with a Dell, I have them set up as computer speakers but do not have them plugged into my PC but just have the jack plugged into my ipod and use my headphones for my PC. I was wondering for about £50 if I could get a more decent set of speakers or is this not neccessary if my current set are in good working order or can I get better with a new set up?

but..
if you buy a new set of speakers the sound quality will definitely improve --it all depends on how much of an audiophile you are; do you like clear, rich sounding music
--or do you just like music and care very little about quality.

anyway, you could probably get better sounding speakers for less than 50bucks--but i can't tell without a model or picture.
