Audio Problem

I have been trying to get my mic/headset combo to work in ventrilo, I have a x-fi xtremegamer sound card that is hooked up to my z-2300s and I have my microphone and headset plugged into the onboard sound. The problem is when I talk on Ventrilo people can hear me but I can't hear anything out of my headset. I cant even hear stuff in windows such as the start-up noise or even songs in itunes? I switched the main audio device to my onboard but it wont let any sound go to the headset??? Any help, please.

i know this sounds stupid but have you plugged the cable in right? Is this in Vista or XP

Ok I fixed the problem with a little troubleshooting, thanks for the help however.
