thoughts on the sigma 30mm f1.4?

Buy it, it kicks butt.

I'd get it from a brick and mortar joint though in case you need to exchange it, sigma has a pretty long track record with AF problems especially on canon bodies, and with an f/1.4 lens, focus problems become obvious.

This is the main reason i bought the Nikon 50G over the Sigma 50mm, at f/1.4, i'm not going to play games.

however, if you get a good one on your first purchase, you'll see, it's a pretty slick lens.

thanks for the sound advice

it's too bad the brick & mortar store closest to me doesn't carry Sigma... :(

going to scout for a used one online now

uhhh, i'm a huge fan of buying used lenses, but this is one of the few lenses i don't think i'd buy used, simply because of reasons i stated above.

i'd get it from some place like keh.com if you want to penny pinch, simply because you can return/exchange it.

ooooh....i was thinking that if i grabbed a used lens, the original owner will already have the lens calibrated and what not

someone could be upgrading to full frame

this lens only fits on crop body

but anyways...... I opted to go for an external flash and the nifty fifty
which ends up costing the same as if I got the 30mm sigma

well cars are a little different, joe blow can fix his own car, joe blow can't precisely fix a lens, and there's generally nothing wrong with buying used, especially cars.

can't go wrong though with the 50 and a flash, winning combination for sure.
