Default putting a core duo into a single core laptop?

This might be the wrong forum to post in was unsure of this one are hardware.

Has anyone tried this, and or is there any reason this might NOT work?

I have 2 laptops, dell 9300 and a dell xps, both of which have pentium M 2ghz CPUs. I have noticed that both this processor and the core duo have the same number of pins. So I was wondering could I buy a core duo and just install it?

I think it depends on the chipset and whether or not it will support Yonah cores or not

unless it is a yonah core solo then no its not going to happen. both the yonah and dothan use s479 but each a different version. Intel were kind enough to shift the position of one pin to make the 2 incompatable so therefore a core duo will only be able to replace a core solo

I think you need a 945 and above chipset.
