Laptop Error 0271

I just bought a HP laptop and when the battery is in, everything is fine, its when i take the battery out, and use the AC adapter, when im done, i unplug the AC adapter, and when i plug it back in and turn the computer on i get Error 0271, Check Time & Date, is this normal, or do laptops not have CMOS batteries ? Should i exchange it for a new one ? Thanks.

Yes, laptops do have cmos batteries. The battery might be dead.
Also, it could just be that the time is not set in the the bios. Go to the bios and check.
