can turn on pc, but wont boot

hi steveblue,
do u have the power light at the front and the back of the tower... is the powerlight at the back on the ps steady or is it flickering...
did u do the self test on the monitor... check if the monitor is working fine...
is there any light on the monitor.... after u turn on the tower... (amber or green steady light )
also.. check for the 4 wired cable that comes from the PS connected to the motherboard near the processor.... unplug it and reconnect it... ( the one with yellow, black... )

usually its the mobo but it never hurts to check the PS

actually, PSU's are usually first to go (capacitors)

the PSU uses transformers to step down the voltage (consisting of a magnetic loop with coils of wire), then uses a bridge rectifier to convert the AC to DC (consisting of 4 diodes), then the capacitors smooth the power.

the capacitors have to do a lot more in the PSU, because before the capacitors smooth the current, it goes from +XV to 0, 100 times per second.
after the capacitors smooth the power, it will only fluctuate a small amount

Its not the monitor or its lead, an other computer works fine with it.

As for bleeps from the motherboard, theres isnt any. but then the system startup doesnt get that far, I can turn the pc on, the system fans work fine, the hard drive does seem to work, the red hard drive light is on and flickers, but green system light never comes on.

have tried a new psu unit, seems results, mobo maker says its more likely the memory or processor that has failed, so i will first check the memory with a new stick, and take it from there

check if the power plug that goes from the PS to the mobo is burned anywhere
the little pin(s) on the mobo might be burned causing little or no power to flow through various part of the mobo.
if anyone of them burned take a pair of pliers and bend the ones that are burned (bend them slightely)
