problem after upgrades, URGENT PLEASE RESPOND!!!

i have a very similar situation that you've described but without any sound from the computer it's just that the window constantly freeze and work again, but it happens years ago on my old compaq now i don't use it any more, but during that time i just had enough of the freezes so i put it away and for like few months after i turn it on and try to fix it up. i restore the computer for many times, ( not restore it then unrestore it but restore it then restore it to another available restore point back earlier times) and after few restores the computer came back to normal again, i guess if you have your harddrive backed up you can try it then and see if it works on your situation
