Lightnig strike? Hmmmm. If I were you I'd load puter #1 with only the basics: Hd, mem and video card. If you can load into windows you might have something as simple as a back CDRom or Floppy!

Even tho system might be same, some of the firmware could be different or chip set might be different version so it might work on one but not other. All else fail, start over. Like others said reinstall OS.
