I'm in the market for a notebook, but I don't know if it's worth spending the more money for XP pro preinstalled. What are the major differences? I've always used XP pro on my PC, because that's what Gateway gave me.

If I get a Gateway notebook I'm pretty sure I could use my OS cd to install pro, but I'm looking at Dell right now.

Check this out here it might help you out some on figuring out the difference between them.

The only real difference is WinXP Pro has a more networking features, such as domains and security policies, I believe the local group policies are more advanced as well...

Pro will allow you to set user permissions on files and folders as well, while Home doesn't allow you to do this. Basically, Home removes most of the special NTFS features.
