Howdy:
I have an IBM Deskstar 20.5 GB 7200RPM hard drive.
It has all the information from another computer on it.
IE: Windows XP Professional .

The old computer is in California, I am in Scotland.

I am building a new computer to use in Scotland until I go back to California next year.

ASUS P4R800-VM Motherboard
INTEL P4 2.60GHZ 800FSB 512K
among other components.

How can I set up my Scotland computer using the above hard drive, without losing all my info.

Thanks from a new member,
Hemog

Hello... I'm entirely new here too... Virgin techies we are. Anyhoo, it's all about FAT tables I presume, I suppose you could insert the hard drive in your Scotland 'puter, but I wouldn't know, really.

*rubs your FSB*

Mmmm...

you can put the drive in the other machine. But it will not boot up. You will have to reload the OS and all of your programs but the data will still be there. There are a few reasons why. The original HDD has drivers for all of the hardware from the other computer installed. The registry will beconfused unless the OS is reinstalled. And by doing that you will have to reinstall allyour programs. But your data will be intact you will just have to install programs that can read or use the files.
