A regular high-level format won't erase the data. It can easily be recovered.

i tried using the WINDOWS disk but i still have files from my previous installation i want to completely erase EVERYTHING,just like having a brand new HD....what if u format NTFS to a FAT32 will that erase everything?..if so how do i do that?

it sound like you didn't hit Esc when the XP repair option come from you booting from cd. if you hit esc you will come to a screen to delete and create partitions.

Hi,

I recommend using KillDisk software to completely wipe your drive. KillDisk erases the whole HDD, it is impossble to recover any data after using it. You should then re-partition and re-format drive, so to use it from scratch. KillDisk also posses some highly secure erase algorithms such as Guttman's.
