A reliable budget NAS? Any experience with WD, Seagate, Buffalo, Iomega ones?

Thanks guys for your replies..

ALL mechanical drives WILL fail after some time.

They do indeed. I should'v been more clear though; by "after some time", I meant after just a few months. That, by my standards, is not acceptable.

I'm not looking to get a NAS box and install disks in RAID or so. (So not looking for Blacks/Greens. I already use Blacks in my desktop btw).

These are the 3 NAS drives I was considering:

Amazon.com: Western Digital My Book Live 2 TB Personal Cloud Storage Drive: Electronics

Amazon.com: Iomega 2 TB Home Media Network Hard Drive Cloud Edition 34766: Electronics

Amazon.com: Buffalo Technology LinkStation Live 2.0 TB (1 x 2 TB) Network Attached Storage LS-X2.0TL (Black): Electronics

Amazon.com: Buffalo Technology LinkStation Pro 2 TB High Performance Network Attached Storage LS-V2.0TL (Black): Electronics

As for the regular USB 3.0 ones, probably one of these:

Amazon.com: Western Digital My Book Essential 3 TB USB 3.0/2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive: Electronics

Amazon.com: Seagate Expansion 3 TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive STBV3000100: Computers & Accessories

If I'm to look at the value for money, the Buffalo LinkStation Live seems a better option than the USB 3.0 mentioned. It's only $10-$20 more than USB 3.0 WD/Seagate ones, but offers more features. Downside though; not many reviews exist about it. And the ones that exist say it's slow. A solution could be the Pro, which has 1.6GHz processor (vs 800 mhz) and a USB port for extra storage/printer. But then again, several users complained of several DOA units, or units failing after only a few months.

I apologize if I'm over-complicating things or making things confusing. I'm a bit confused now myself. That's why I'm looking to you guys for advice.

Appreciated
