Question regarding laptop LCD.

I just recently purchased a used HP Compaq Presario F572 laptop and the LCD on the screen all of a sudden just stopped powering on completely, no lighting up whatsoever. So I go ahead and try the standard fix for this(holding power button no battery etc) which didn't work. I go ahead and plug the laptop into an external monitor which makes the laptop visibly working in good condition on the external monitor and it powers up my LCD screen on the laptop. I go ahead an unplug the external monitor and the LCD screen on the laptop is working fine just like it was when purchased, yet when I go ahead and restart the laptop the LCD screen just won't power on without being plugged into an external monitor first. Any Idea why this would be?(fairly new to the laptop world any advice much appreciated, thank you)

Might be the gfx card crapping out.Could also be a loose connection somewhere.

RMA if it's new. Sounds like bad electrical work.
