Good Day folks, a while back I found a Core 2 Quad for a great price (Q9550), and after checking at the store with an associate found it supported my mobo, an XFX nForce 680i LT. Except apparently it is not fully compatible, nvidia says it should be, online retail shops says it should be, but the XFX website says they are not. So... while my PC has had no issues, what exactly am I losing by supposedly being not quite the right fit. Should i bite the bullet and just spend the 120ish on a 780i, or do we think I'm okay with what i have?

I upgraded from a p4, and the performance boost was awesome, but I want to to be sure I'm not missing out on extra processing power somewhere. Thanks so much ahead of time, I look forward to some answers from you all : )

Well how about that. I suppose that answers my question well and good. I appreciate the response Mike, and the bit of digging around you did to help out, i came across nothing of the sort, so you're searching skills far surpass my own -chuckles-

Thanks again : )

No thnats total crap.

680i chipsets cannot use 45nm quads... the best quad is a q6850 or something....... They do however run 45nm dual cores

Straight from xfx http://xfxforce.com/en-us/products/...~/ecms.aspx/XFXCPUCompatibilityList-Intel.pdf

The 630i will for some reason run all 45nm quads.

Edit

Even Nvidia says no btw. The *** is misleading as you need to dig into manufactuers sites and find irts bthe 630i that supports the q9650.

Thanks to patonb pm 5 minutes ago, I made a mistake and I should have looked alot closer when looking at the specs for that mobo.

When I is reading about your mobo it sound like a troouble some SOB from the reviews on certain sites.
To be perfectly honest if you have that cpu get this instead:
Newegg.com - ASUS P5N-D LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

Again my apology to you for giving you the wrong information, I hope you get this in time before you decide not to take this mobo back.
