I think a normal flash drive would be fine, they can handle 20k+ read/write cycles so, replacing it once in awhile is a good idea, but I don't see them failing often, I have had one out of 10 fail in the last 4-6 years, and the one that failed was physically damaged.
 
Decided to go with the USB stick; 4GB for a tenner. It should last at least a year, which is good enough.
