Hey guys,
I recently got a 1.5TB external HDD with USB, Firewire 400, and E-Sata.
All is good and I plugged in an E-Sata port. On average I get around 35-50MB/S. Not as fast as I thought it was going to be but ****, faster than USB and Firewire *shrug*.
Anyways, I went to run some tests with SeaTools, and the Long Generic works, but the Long DST takes 10 seconds and says its passes, curious I run WD DLG and find that it says the SMART is failing and will not test using extended (it does just doesnt show what sector it is on).
So, I unplug the E-Sata and pop on the USB and boom, WD DLG and Long DST operates the way they should, and SMART is passing...
Am I right in discovering that to test to see if my HDD is failing I have to unplug my cable of choice and plug a freaking USB into it? Or Firewire I suppose?
Also, I haven't had an external in awhile, but every now and then while transferring alot of data it will vibrate a bit harder for a split second and then continue, it is NOT clicking but almost like a hard vibrate (which prompted the tests).
Thanks guys.
