Broadly speaking the E1xxx and E2xxx series are low end, the E5xxx and E6xxx series are mid level and the E8xxx and E9xxx series are more high end. But like hikari said it depends on your definition.

It isn't worth the money because you can get an E8500 or a Q9550 for a quarter of the price and almost the same performance. Even greater performance if you're planning to overclock.
