Do the basic services, like disk defrag, etc... In worse cases it could be some driver conflicts, if you think so go and get the newest drivers at the hardware's respective websites.

Other than that, it's hard to physically tell if a hard drive is dying, you'll know the hard drive is going bad when it's too late. Software might think the harddrive is fine because it doesn't have any bad mamory cells and responds to commands.
