I doubt the RAM

My old crappy pc gives me 4 series BSOD....0x00004e....0x00000a.....have made a quick research on that......iam trying to reinstall the whole os using a full format like whiping the hdd completely.......before i cud do that, some ppl suggest me to do a mem test ......i know mem test wud take a very very long time .......shud i ocompile a bootable disc for this ?if so wats the best software ???? rite now iam able to boot to desktop screen...i get bsod if i try to work on something for 20 minutes or so

Memtest - google it. You will burn an image to a cd and boot from that cd, then the memtest will start.
