My laptop idles at 50C. At load it can hit over 60C. It's been running this way for over a year and I'm going to say that with this stock setup my laptop isn't in anyway damaged.
Laptops won't run as cool as a desktop. It's kind of obvious: they don't have a big heatsink, they don't have much air room, and they don't have as many fans as a desktop case. In my laptop's case, the only fan is located on the bottom, which is completely covered when I set the laptop on a table.
