Looking to replace the heatsink fan

My current one is pretty loud. I would like to replace it with a quieter one. Is there anything I should know prior to purchasing? Installation issues, price range, brand names, etc.? My processor is an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ if that info is needed.

are you overclocking??? if not which I am guessing as noise levels are an issue then you should buy just a heatsink with no fan there are quite a few out there designed for htpc cases you will need to have good general air flow in your case though

Nope.
So you are saying that I should just try and find a better quality heatsink? Thank you for your reply.

not really a better quality just one which is either
1) simple copper heatsink with large surface area as used by many htpc
2) a 120mm fan cooler and then swap the fan for a quiet one againyou will need it to be quite large to dissipate the heat
