Will different formats of hard drives effect a game's performance? For example, will an SATA run games quicker than a IDE?

Thx.

Normal IDE got 100 n 133MB while SATA is150MB.
Basically if we c from the data transfer rate SATA will be faster.
But it is any hard disk that can reach the speed?
For gaming, HDD with 7200rpm n 8MB buffer is enough to handle.
The only thing that will be the issue is the graphic card n your RAM.

The hard drive speed has nothing to do with the game once you're playing. What it will speed up is the launching of the game and the changing of the levels (if it needs to read from the HD between levels).

If you want a boost in your ingame performance, the things you'd want to look at upgrading are your vid card, your processor, RAM and/or your MOBO.

What?

Bla!! is correct. a faster hard disk will load the game faster and make your applications like Word, powerpoint, photoshop or Flash faster. it is useful for applications only because you do a lot of reading and writing to hard disk. it will not make games run faster, the video card is the biggest factor for 3D games. I play yuri's revenge which is CPU depedant since its 2D. that game replies on CPU more than video card.

to clarify about IDE interfaces. IDE hard disk have 66/ 100/ 133. this is measured at megabytes per second. this is the maximum transfer speed, not the average as didi says. it almost never reaches near the maximum transfer speed. interface doesn't tell you hard disk speed by itself. you have to consider cache, RPM, response time , ect. anyways...look into video cards if you want better performance for 3D games
