sata hardrive not seen by vista

hi all im running windows vista ultimate and just bought a secondry 500gb sata hard drive to use as slave,the drive is seen in my bios but not by the operating system, my actual operating system is on an ide drive,any help much apreciated

thats why then. new hard drives always need to get formated for the OS to see them. just like when you install windows, windows formats the drive before it copies the files on to it. your hard drive should have came with a CD, you can format it with that. if not you can format it with the FDISK command in dos if you get your self dos on a floppy. i suggest using the CD it came with or downloading the tools for the manufacturers website.
