Reciever to computer

Can anyone tell me if it is technically sound to hook a home stereo receiver into the "line in" port on my comptuer sound card? It's easy enough to do however I am wondering if a home receiver has too much output for the average sound card.

Any help would be appreciated.

you can do it but i wouldn't expect the best quality.......
