Ok, so a friend got a 250 GB western digital HD, along with an external enclosure. I put the drive into the enclosure and plugged it into his computer. His computer would only let me format it as FAT32 with 4.3 GB or storage. His computer is a Dell Inspiron 1900 with windows XP home. I plugged it into my desktop with windows XP pro, and it would only let me format it as NTFS and the full 230 GB of storage. Then, when taking to another computer, such as his, it wont recognize it. What can I do to fix this so that it will work on more than just my computer?

It sounds like an issue with XP Home. Try formatting the hard drive into 3 or 4 partitions, and see if his computer will see it then. It is weird that Home will only format it as FAT32. Make sure there's not a BIOS update for that PC.

XP Home only formats in FAT32? Strange...XP Pro formats in FAT32 and NTFS.

XP Home should format in NTFS. If Win2000 and NT 4 can do it, so will XP Home.

OK, how about going to the computer Management, to see if you cam actually see the drive and format it under NTFS? Or, did you went there already?
