XP & Mice

Help!
Recently upgraded a machine from 98 to XP and now no matter what I do - I cannot get the mouse to operate. Have tried USB, PS2 & Serial - nothing.

Mouse does not appear in hardware list and does not locate when searching for new hardware.

Have tried normal mice, optical etc.

MS website suggest updating BIOS however the BIOS is up to date and we updated it anyway - nothing!

Any suggestions?
