x700 or 9800 pro xt

I bought a graphics card for my computer just a little while ago, and i'm looking to get one for my brother for his birthday too (he bought me 12 x-box games for my birthday, so i gotta get him something good), he loves computer games and I know hes got like a radeon 9500 or something like that. He plays the same game as me since we share it, HL:2 and Doom 3. Which graphics card is better for these purposes. I know theirs a lot of which graphics card is better questions, i tried searching and nothing really gave me enough information to draw the conclusion of which one is better.

I mainly ask this question because at my local bestu buy the 9800 pro xt is more expensvie, yet i thought the x700 was a newer graphics card.

Well the 9800XT uses AGP and the X700 uses PCI-E, so it really depends what interface the computer uses.

9800 XT is more expensive cuz originally it sold for a higher price and now they refuse to lower it or else they will lose money. Its faster than the X700 in certain situations, where settings are maxed.

I suggest getting a 6600 Gt AGP they are a very good card, render nicely and are cost effective.

Also I dont recommend buying parts from local retailers, its much cheaper to get them online.

Those are ranked in the order of my prefference. All of them are good cards but the MSI one is the best. But you will have to wait so you might want to go with my second choice.

Yeah, the 6600 GT is awesome for its price.

Get a 6600 GT, it has about a 20-25 percent performance increase over the 9800 PRO, so I would say it sitll has a slight advantage over the 9800XT. It is also really cheap.
