I was looking at some benchmarks and the X800 GTO beats the 6800GT Vanilla in 3dMark01-03! I'm kinda confused over which video card to get now. The X1600 is alot cheaper then the 6800GS, and the 6800GS performs below the 6800GT.

Oh yeah, forgot to eadd, the X1600XT performed a cut under the GTO. Man am I confused!

The 6800GS is better than the 1600XT. The 1600XT is not a lot cheaper than the 6800GS ($180 vs. $205). "6800GT Vanilla" is an oxymoron. :D I don't understand ATi's nomenclature, either! It has something to do with chip architecture. The X1#00 cards have the same architecture, as do the X##0 cards, maybe?

The 6800GS outperforms the 6800GT by far and even OCs alot more than it. Not to mention the bus its on is supposed to be alot faster. I can gurantee you the GTO dosent beat out the 6800GT either. From what ive been told the 6800GS outperforms the X1600 as well. The 600GS is meant to be the mid range card for the 7*** series.

The x1600xt will kill the 6800gs, even overclocked. Lol fanboys, don't even look at the specs and just say the 6800gs will own. No that is not the case. Not only is the X1600XT cheaper than the 6800gs, but it's far more powerful. Let's take a minute to compare specs, shall we?

X1600XT:

Price: $179
process size: 90nm
core speed: 600MHz
Pixel pipelines: 12
RAM: 256MB GDDR3
RAM speed: 1.4GHz
support shader model 3: yes

6800GS:
Price: $205
process size: 130nm (or is it 110nm?)
core speed 425MHz
Pixel pipelines: 12
RAM: 256mb GDDR3
Ram speed 1.0GHz
support shader model 3: yes

Even an overclocked 6800gs would still lose to an X1600XT, if you're LUCKY, you might hit 510/1150 clock speeds on the 6800GS, but lets compare that to the stock speeds of the X1600XT: 600/1400. there is no competition. both cards have 12 pipelines. the 6800GS CAN NOT be unlocked, contrary to what some people here believe. I'm not sure about the X1600XT. And not only does the X1600XT beat an overclocked 6800GS, but it too will also have a very good overclock headroom due to the 90nm process. I'm thinking mabey 690/700 for core, mabey 1.5GHz for the RAM.

EDIT:
just read on the inquirer that the 6800gs still beats it by a fair ammount due to the 256-bit memory, and the x1600 only has 128-bit. so yeah... sorry about that. ati might release it with 256-bit memory for the same price of the 6800gs.. if it did that, it would totally kill the 6800gs with it's clockspeeds.

003, have you actually looked at the benchmarks for the X1600XT? Or are you just an ATI fanboy.

If you are a 3DMark05 freak, get the X1600XT, because thats the only thing it actually beats the 6800GT/GS in.

However, I don't think somebody who is that worried about 3DMark05 would get a midrange card like this.

Now here is Far Cry, which is an ATI biased game, and the picture isn't quite the same.

The X1600XT is a complete waste of money when compared to competitive cards, much like the X600XT was. Go for the 6800GS which performs the same as the 6800GT stock and a little better when overclocked.

And no, the GS doesn't blow away the 6800GT.

And here's a nice article about it from The Inquirer.

ATI is flat out stupid to release it with 128-bit memory, because if it had 256-bit, it could actually be a worthy competitor and the midrange level.
