i bought a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750GB SATA/300 7200RPM 16MB Hard Drive. wtf i understand you lose some to page file and partition but 52 gigs. that means a 1 tb hdd you are going to lose close to 100gb if not more.

Formatting. It happens to every hard drive, and there is no fix for it as far as I know. My 250 gig hard drive registers as 232 gigs in Windows. My 500 gig registers as 465. I think it has something to do with the conflict on what a gigabyte really is. Some say 1024 megabytes, some say 1000 megabytes.

Hard drive manufactures say there's 1000 bytes in one kilobyte, windows says there's 1024. You don't "lose" any space. This is the same with any HDD. The pagefile just uses free space, it doesn't take away from your total space. Some linux distributions say there's 1000 bytes in a kilobyte.
