Would a 12ms response time effect gaming much?

Nubius is right. I'm looking at an old dell 1800FP. 18", used to cost like $600 and is now $200, ya know what I mean? :D

I've never noticed any "screen lag" either, and this is a 25 ms response time monitor.

Why can I notice slight ghosting behind a moving object on a 8ms screen though. It gives me nausea when I am looking hard at the screen.

(I don't see it when I am just relaxing, and barely looking at what is on the screen.)

depends on manufacturer really. they have so many ways to rate monitors nowadays it's hard to go by specs :( personally i bought a 19" 4ms from sony and returned it the next day b/c ghosting was very apparent. then bought a 24" 16ms from Dell. BF2, WoW, L2, CS, Doom3. no ghosting whatsoever.
so if you really looking for an LCD, i recommend choosing your LCD based on personal reviews from other people, or if possible, personal experimentation.

depends, they can throw some bad ones out, but also some really excellent ones... check the reviews

Like Nubius said the rating is really over rated. Ive never seen my dads 12ms screen ghost yet ive seen this 17" Dell CRT (that im on now, not mine) ghost horribly.
