well did anything come on at all when you first started it? normally if theres a short you get power for like 1 second and some smoke (im use there wasn't any) try reseating every thing make sure if its a 24 pin mbo to use the 4 pin connector to the board, also is both psu caable of the load.

I have seen PCs display the exact symptoms he is describing, from shorting out..

on more than one occasion.

well we figured it out last night. Was too tired to plug in the computer and post this last night when I got home.

Anyway, the problem was the bios. Asus p5b is a bit older so it needs a bios update to work with the new intel cpu's. Wasn't exactly my first guess, but we figured this had to be the problem after a couple of hours of testing the hardware.
