Hello everyone,
For the past 3 years my family has been using a wireless network (Using a D-Link 624 Rev. C Router with 3 computers using DWL-G520 cards)and up until about a year ago when before we moved we didn't have any problems. Our router is located in my mom's office which is fine for everyone except me because my bedroom is on the opposite side of the house. Because of the location of my room and the location of the router my wireless signal when connecting to our network has been crappy ranging from 4%-15% signal strength. It made it nearly impossible for me to have wireless internet, moving the router was out of the question and I even bought the ANT24-0400 antenna for my router and the DWL-M60AT to replace the antenna for my wireless card. This improved my wireless signal a little bit but overall I was still having problems connecting and staying connected, I even called D-Link multiple times and was told to turn of Super G Mode which as well only slightly helped my signal. I gave up trying to connect to my wireless router and was able to connect to my neighbors wireless router, I don't know where his router is but his house is around 40 feet from my room. I didn't have any problems staying connected but the only thing was my neighbor had a B wireless network so my max Tx rate was 11 Mbps. Well this Christmas I got the DWL-2100AP which I attempted to set up as a repeater but had no luck, instead of repeating the signal it would create its own network and not repeat my router signal. I called D-Link up and after waiting about 45 minutes on the phone I was transferred to a guy who (No Offense) didn't speak English that well and made me give him all this info only to find out that for the DWL-2100AP I needed to call a specialist and the number the guy gave me didn't even work. So I took the DWL-2100AP back to BestBuy and was going to exchange it for a different one to see if the one I had was defective only to find out they had none in stock, so instead the wireless tech guy told me about the Linksys WRE54G Wireless Range Expander and said that this should fix my problems. When I got home I set up the Linksys WRE54G and to test it out disabled our WEP and to my amazement it worked, my wireless signal went from 10%-15% to 75%-85%. Everything was going ok for the first couple of hours until I started to lose my wireless signal, if I was playing a game I would start to lag out, if I was download via Azureus I would watch my DL speed rise for about 5 minutes and then fall down to 0. When this would happen (and it does quite a bit) I would check and my Tx rate would drop from 54 to 48 to 36 to 11 and then to 5 with it rotating between 5 and 11 Mbps. The only solutions I found to temporarily fix this was to disconnect from the network and then reconnect and even this didint work all the time. Whats also really wired is that when the Linksys WRE54G is plugged in the computers upstairs would pick the increased wireless signal up and start to lag, the same problems I would have would happen almost instantly on the computer upstairs even if they were not happening to me.
I've done everything I can think of, I re-setup the network, assigned static IPs, enabled/disabled WEP, moved the Linksys WRE54G around the house, and just about anything else I could think of.
I would Appreciate any help in this matter, if you need more info, screenshots or whatever i'll be glad to supply. If I cant get this fixed then it looks like I might have to get my own cable modem and thats something I would really like to avoid.
