Am using this old HP m8120n PC.

Wired connection works.

It seems that my built in "USB Wireless 802.11 b/g Adaptor" works and is noticeable under Computer Management. However, it can't connect or see any wireless networks.

Similarly, I have a card D-Link Wireless N USB Adapter | and it's not working as well.

It shows up on the Device Manager but it has an exclamation point inside a yellow triangle thing. I right click to update it and it doesn't work. I also tried to download the software online and the settings didn't detect it. It said "Wireless Adapter not found, please insert" and so on.

This is a new installation of Windows 7 too. So I'm sure this may be a hardware issue.

trying to pinpoint before I shell out any money on another hardware wifi adapter.

Probably not. Ill try to do some research on how to do that. Incase I overlook anything, just go to the website of hp and download and find the chipsets? Whats the standard?
