Another thing. If are really worried about losing speed then put the router beside the device you want to use(for me it is beside my xbox360) and hardwire it to it. Then wirelessly connect to your other devices.
i game wirelessly over a 54mbps network and my pings are <30, download rates are as high as my internet can provide which is 300kb/s, as long as you get a good router and wireless adapter wireless can be just as good if not better than wired
