Time for me to ask a question.....My son is visiting and brought his computer with him. It is about 6 months old AMD 2700+ Compaq running WinXP.
When we turned it on, it shows the Compaq logo (it will not let us access the bios by pressing any of the F keys). After the Compaq screen goes away, about 5 minutes later a message appears that says " Disc error, insert Sytems Disc and press Enter". A young child was messing with his computer before he brought it here, so almost anything could have happened.
He didn't bring his system restore discs otherwise I would try to reboot with them.
I have a WinXP Home Edition that came with another computer. When I insert this disc, the files will download and go to the windows is starting message. It then gives a message that this particuliar disc can't be used and Windows is shutting down to prevent harm to the computer.
Any suggestion as to why I can't get in to the Bios?
Suggestions as to how to get him up and running?
I have removed all cables and reattached.
I have removed memory and reinserted.
Power comes on normally and fans spin.
I have thought about downloading the WinXP start up disc (6) and try booting from them to see what will happen.
