Windows XP SP1 Big Problems

I just installed the SP1 on my laptop. The computer will not reboot now. I've tried the last known successful option and it won't work. In the MS db it says that SP1 deletes the last known option to prevent an error. The only option Compaq could come up for me was to use their quick restore which will reformat my Hard Drive. Any suggestions from the pro's here?

i just read in the forums at xp-erience.org that sp1 does not work with compaq, or hp laptops...
