windows thinks dvd rw is cd drive!

After I installed windows vista, I wanted to make an extra backup disk but, in
'computer' it said my dvd rw drive was a cd-rom drive and I cant open or burn any
dvds! If it is a driver problem, where shall I get it?

In device manager it is called 'MA****A DVD-RAM UJ-852S ATA Device', it was also called this in my previous operating system.

The system blocked the dvd name but in the place of those asterix's it said the 's' word (the one that means poop).

What kind of laptop do you have? You could look it up on the manufacturer's site, where you'll probably find the drivers you need.
