I am just wondering if is possible to transfer data from the internal hard disc in my lap top to an external hard disc connected to the lap top via usb and if so how would I go about it. Thanks.

Define data.

If it is just folders/files then use Windows Explorer, right click on the folders/files to be moved, select copy or cut and paste them to the external drive.

yeah, i was wondering about this as well.... can i connect my laptop to another computer (ie a new one?) and just direct transfer my files (music, pictures, videos, stuff like that)

You can connect a laptop to a computer using an ethernet cable. You would then need to setup a simple file sharing LAN connection between the laptop and computer.
