There is also a compatibility issue with older intel graphic cards. You can't watch videos in WMP (it is highly dependent on DirectX). Videos in VLC work fine though. Live essentials crash the system too. The only solution for such issues is to disable hardware acceleration.

Live Essentials is only on certain systems. I am able to run it just fine on my system. 3 out 4 of my installs Live Essentials ran just fine. It is not a every system occurrence that Live crashes.

I can watch videos in WMP just fine as well. Codec packs work real well for that. Any Intel chipset older than the 945 series is not supported. This was noted by Intel themselves.
