Why does HDMI cable make monitor look worse?

Ive been using a VGI cable for my new hdmi monitor on my new pc, and just got an hdmi cable. The hdmi cable seems to make my screen more light kinda, like my black backround, and things are worse quality, like desktop icons have pix-elated edges. How to resolve this or configure my monitor?

Make sure the cable is plugged in tightly on both sides. I'd also make sure the resolution is set properly on the monitor.

Is your monitor an actual computer monitor or a re-purposed TV? When I've hooked these up to TV's I've needed to modify the TV's scan mode to get everything to appear properly at 1080p resolution.

My monitor is an actual computer monitor. I resolved the light issue by changing the preset on the monitor, but other things seem still bad like the icons.

This is common on HDMI monitors. Either switch to VGA/DVI, or download the driver software. This is a common issue with HDMI monitors.
