Why do i lose my audio when i O.C?

I'm so sick of resetting the chmos so i can reinstall my "Soundmax" audio drivers. Thought it was just when i increased voltage but now i'm not sure.....seems like i do anything in now in bios and i lose my audio. Would flashing my bois to a newer version help me? It was last flashed in 2002..

make sure you have your pci agp frequency locked same thing happened to me had to dl the drivers and relock the pci agp freq.
