why do famous get special treatment?

One argument Anon seems to bring up with Scientology in order to get members out. Like how come Tom Cruise and many other Xenu Believing Celebrities seems to get the special treatment in Scientology, where every one else is treated like rubbish.

It's also annoyies me how the media seems to over hype this. Celeb get busted drink driving and the media seems to hype this up. This sort of garbage does happen to the average joe, and they are lucky to make foot note in the local papers.

They use Tom Cruise as their poster-boy, to try boosting their PR image.

If you had a family member who was dying would you pull over immediately or drive the extra 20 seconds that this man did to get to the entrance? They were at home resting when they received the call that the death was imminent. I know if I was in the same situation that I would not stop.

20 seconds? he fled for over a minute. Seriously just think. If you're a police officer and someone flees for over a minute what would you think? "Armed, dangerous, and drugs" would probably be the only things flying through your brain..i think he acted better than what he should of. The people deserve a lot worse.

their family member was dying. and they told the cop that but he didn't care. that's no special treatment

again, after fleeing for so long you wouldn't care either if you was a cop..you would be worried about your own life. No special treatment? The ticket was dropped, the officer put on leave, and probably going to be fired. If they was a normal person, the cop would be a hero. In this situation though he is treated like a criminal himself.

I agree with heff and molsen here. I think officer Powell may have been abusing his authority in this situation. This isn't really special treatment either. I am betting the police department would of revoked the ticket if it were a "normal person" because of the situation. As for officer Powell he is on PAID leave and they are going to do an internal investigation. So I am not sure officer Powell is the one hurting. On the other hand the NFL player was, as he said "He stole a moment away from me that I can never get back."

Powell switched on his lights and sirens, caught up to the family's SUV, and followed for about 20 seconds as they found a parking spot near the hospital's emergency entrance.

"I am embarrassed and disappointed by the behavior of one of our police officers," the chief told a packed audience of media outlets that included Inside Edition. "His behavior, in my opinion, did not exhibit the common sense, discretion, the compassion that we expect our officers to exhibit."

You can see it all for yourself in the above video. The officer refusing for about five minutes to even acknowledge what Moats is saying about his mother-in-law. His making it a point to inform Moats of all the ways he has the power to make his life difficult. The complete lack of sensitivity.

And that is a quote from the link you posted.

If they was a normal person, the cop would be a hero.

How under any circumstance would the cop be a hero for what he did?

Are you actually saying that if the cop did that (detained them for 15 minutes while a family member was dying) to a normal person he would be a hero?

Please explain that one.

Breaking the law is breaking the law. It doesn't matter if your family member is dying, running red lights and evading a police officer is still illegal. There's no special exceptions here.

Having said that, the cop acted properly until he was aware of the situation, then his judgment was very poor. He could have escorted the guy to the hospital bed so that he could be with his family, and still fine him or whatever afterward.

This is a better way to see it. My point is he shouldn't be left off without anything. Running a light and speeding..ignore it. Running from cop and not listening, needs fined. And the cop shouldn't lose his job. Yea he might of acted a bit more aggressive then he needed but at least he does his job unlike most cops.

I think that ninth_infantry made a couple of good points in the comments.
Should he be fired - my opinion no.
I understand in this case he was wrong. How many times do you think that someone lied to a police officer? He was trying to control the situation. I think it was a little over the top, and he could have gotten out of it sooner, but still not a fireable offense.
Also.... to those who say he should have followed them into the hospital and asked. If they had gone into the hospital and taken hostages, you would probably be screaming that he shouldn't have let them get in the hospital in the first place.
Let the first of you without fault cast stones.

If his mother in law is dieing then that's all the more reason not to show up with a matter of minutes to go, break a red light, continue driving after an officer turns his siren on and then complain at the officer. If the process took 14 minutes then it took 14 minutes and it would have been a lot quicker if Moats wasn't acting like a fool.
As for those who talk of the extenuating circumstances, what if Moats irresponsible behaviour put you or your families safety at risk? I'm willing to bet you wouldn't take his extenuating circumstances as a valid would excuse.
