Okay, Im going off to graduate school, and I need a new laptop.. I would like to spend at most, $2,800... here are my requirements:

-the Basics: typing, powerpoint, internet browsing

- some gaming. but not too much (so a good, but not great graphic card), however need to use complicated engineering software such as inventer, autocad, 3dsmax (so it may require a good graphic card)

- NO NEED for movie editing, or music manipulation of any kind..

-must last 4 years...

These are the 4 laptops I have it narrowed down to, if you guys could say which one I should get, I would really apprecaite it.. remember my needs, as a constatly moving around graduate student from class to class, not really much gaming (only command and conquer 3), and a long battery life (im buying all the 9 cells)

Hey, welcome to the forums!

Stay away from that alienware. Really the only thing different thing you are getting in it over the others is a good video card. Processor is worse than the others, everything else is the same.

I would go woth the first Asus laptop you presented (#3). It has got a good processor, decent video card, and plenty of RAM to handle all of your needs.

If i had more time before i had to go to work, i would give a link of one from Acer. if you are able to, check them out. Acer builds good comptuers and unlike all of the companies above, i have never gotten a tech support person outside of the US when i called.

ive narrowed it down to two laptops, here they are:

the Asus G1

and the Power Pro L 8:15 (HEL- 80)
Code:

Code:

with 2 gigs of ram^...

which one should I get???

I also, if you guys say the G1, just get the G1s, as I can wait until july to buy the laptop.. also, I am considering waiting for the HP 8510P to come out.

That asus is a good deal for what you are getting. Which of the Powernotebooks are you considering? using that link, i and clicking "Sales prices" i was brought here
